DU Admission Criteria to be based on merit

Referring to the CBSE Class 12th Board Exam2021 cancellation, the Delhi University Vice-Chancellor added, in view of the unprecedented Covid-19 situation, we will follow the government decision.

DU Acting Vice-Chancellor P C Joshi said, “This decision has been taken in view of the unprecedented Covid situation. We are with the Government of India. Our admission criteria will strictly be based on merit. We will honor the Board’s criterion”.

CBSE Class 12th Result 2021 will be released in accordance with the well-defined objective criteria formulated by the board. Based on the result release, cut-offs for DU Admission 2021 will be released.

Delhi University conducts the admission process for various undergraduate courses through the cutoff released, which is based on class 12th marks. However, due to the cancellation of Class 12th Board Examination 2021, the DU will now follow the board's result evaluation criteria.

Referring to the admission process, Rajeev Gupta, Chairperson-Admissions, said, “Whatever formula CBSE adopts, ultimately, they will declare results. We will declare cut-offs based on it.”

Keeping in mind the current pandemic, and possibilities of the Covid-19 third wave in the country, the Delhi University officials stated that conducting CUCET 2021 this year is most unlikely, therefore we will follow the directions of CBSE while declaring the cut-offs for admission.

When asked about the CUCET 2021 exam, DU officials added, “We are committed to CUCET as and when it happens. The problem there too is that national-level examinations have to take place".

"Nobody is in a situation right now to answer how the situation will be in various cities and whether this exam can be held. In the larger of interest students, this is the best possible option [to go by CBSE formula]” they further added.

Delhi University's officials are expected to hold a meeting and discuss on how to proceed with the admission process after the CBSE releases the result evaluation criteria.

DU officials stated that the admission process of the college is considered pan India, hence they simply can not decide on the basis of the board.

The officials further added that the authority has to also consider the result release dates. Some state boards may release their results in July, or in August. Therefore, the Delhi University exam authority has to delay the admission process accordingly.
