Mrs. Monalisha Mohanty is the Principal of the Xavier School of Hotel Management. She did a Master's in Hotel Management and is pursuing Ph.D. in Environmental Management from UUC, Bhubaneswar. What are your roles and responsibilities?

“To develop an effective educational program and promote the development of the student”

I joined Xavier College of Hotel Management in 2006 with a resolution and social service goal. My focus is to develop effective educational programs and promote the development of the student. It helps to promote the all-around development of the campus. We ensure high-quality education in a healthy learning environment. We aim to maintain the regular attendance of pupils and faculty cooperatively. 


How do you establish healthy relations with students and faculty in Xavier School of Hotel Management?

“Prepare and train the pupils for upcoming career opportunities”

We deal with the problems and needs of students and faculty. A short group of students under the faculty was prepared by us. It clears all their doubts. Our campus prepares and trains the pupils for upcoming career interviews. Students obey the faculty due to solving all their problems. 


How do you bring a practical approach towards subjects as industry-oriented?

“Provide practical oriented subjects like cooking to make students skilled”

Practical subjects make students skillful instead of theoretical knowledge. We give practical aspects on the subject through labs. Moreover, a cooking course makes a skilled pupil. A candidate learns professional cookery by equipment handling. 


How do you update the curriculum for the students in Xavier School of Hotel Management?

“Upgrade the syllabus according to industrial demand”

We update the curriculum according to industrial demand. A modern sphere of employment deal by us. It aids our students to complete a syllabus through maximum knowledge. We follow the culture of Utkal University. This helps us to acquire productive learning systems and tools. Every new session is evaluated by our organizational strategy.

What are your views on placements and higher education for pupils?

“More than 5000 students are placed in national and international hotels”

Most of the students take admission due to placement records on our campus. The degrees and diplomas are essential for job opportunities. Several Govt. level posts are also got by individuals. Our asset is placement. We have more than 5000 students placed in national and international hotels to date. All hold a successful position in the industry. 


How do you help a student to cope up with the outside competition?

“Provide sessions on Personality development and communication skills for pupils”

The hotel industry contains celebrities, Politicians, and businessmen. We provide classes on Personality development, group discussions, and communication skills for students. Our students get respective training from professionals. It helps to deal with industrial standards. The GD, PI, and PD classes consist of case studies and principles. 


What extracurricular activities raise the skills of the students in Xavier School of Hotel Management? 

“Annual sports, cultural function, food festival, social awareness program and study tour are available for students”

Every sector is looking for an A1-level candidate. We make the students good scholars and develop a prospective personality. Several programs like Annual sports, cultural functions, food festivals, social awareness programs, and study tours are held for students. They also perform in college and industry atmospheres apart from these. The digital tools also help to create another identity for pupils. 


What challenges do you face to uplift the education quality of campus?

“To assess students about industry confirmation”

One of the tough tasks is to understand students about industry confirmation. Our hotel industry department divides into four parts for a different career. The uplift of teaching is another priority. We decide to formulate tools in digital and practical aspects for industrial standards. 


What is your vision about Xavier School of Hotel Management?

“To provide best placement and infrastructure development”

Our organization's goal is to be more energetic and spontaneous. We got the best placement provider in 2017 and 2018. Another aim is to implement awareness among the students and parents. It creates the admission rate on our campus. The last one is to make developments in infrastructure, teaching, nonteaching, and placement of students.

The syllabus of hotel management links with the practical part. Our industry focuses on Practical rather than theory. My advice for students is to be lifelong learners and choose a career. It is necessary to get several skills for a flexible path. An organized way with daily tasks helps to urge a good habit. It also helps to attain a career ahead. Sincerity, Morality, Confidence, and communication are other skills for students to deserve a job.
