Mr. Pawan Kumar is the Management Trustee at Vananchal Dental College. Having spent a considerable amount of time in the education field, he wants to develop a safe learning environment where students can learn together and benefit the society. He believes in practical learning and implements the same in the institution. Read here what he has to say in his interview.

What are the key factors that keep you connected with the education sector?

“Education is the way forward for any nation”

Throughout my career, I have seen that education is the only way to improve our society. Many rural areas and states like Jharkhand do not have adequate exposure to higher education. The passion for making society better and healthy and giving guidance to the youth keep me connected with the education sector. I want to keep in touch with students to guide them to make them successful in their careers. We have started Vananchal dental college to provide medical facilities to the people residing in the area.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

“We want to fill the void present in the society pertaining to the medical needs”

We had the opportunity to open a college in any part of India, but we selected the Jharkhand region because medical facilities were not very developed in this region. We want to fulfill the gap present in our society. We are not a money-making institution. We always give priority to the requirements of society. We support people to achieve their goals in their life. We identified Garhwa place as a much undeveloped area and started with Dental College to provide many opportunities for society. 

Any insights into how your university could be more welcoming to students of different races or economic backgrounds?

“We give importance to education and try to remove the gap in the society”

We understand that people of Jharkhand state are not capable of paying very high fees. Our paying capacity is low. Thus, we have never upgraded our fees since the time of inception. Although the government has provided guidelines for colleges to restructure their course fee every three years, we have never upgraded our course fees. We take care of guardians. We understand their paying capacity and have structured our course fee accordingly. We also offer scholarships to those students who are not economically stable to provide college fees. The college always gives importance to education and tries to remove the gap in society.

What do you think your roles and responsibilities to the college and the students are?

“The college admins and teaching staff are always available for the students”

We assist students in every aspect and are available for them 24x7. We always take care of our students. No students get the feeling that they are lonely. Students always feel safe on the campus, and facilities are available for them to help out 24x7. Students who take admission in our college, we treat them as a part of our family. We always take care of our students as we do to our family members. We provide them proper guidance in their professional and personal career. College provides proper counseling to their students.

What do you think should be the college’s top priority over the next 10 years?

“Our primary objective is to provide the best education to our students”

Our prime priority is to provide an excellent education to our students to become the right person and achieve their career goals. College tries to make each student capable of starting their professional journey after graduating from college. Students serve society through their knowledge and experience. As we are in the health sector, our students are making their society healthy and prosperous. All our students become self-dependent. Due to practical knowledge, every student develops a useful skill in this sector. 

What do you see as Vananchal Dental College’s greatest strengths?

“Our greatest strengths are our green campus, course curriculum, and teaching staff”

The course curriculum provides our students with perfect clinical exposure. Our students start practicing their knowledge from the 3rd year onwards and gain experience under our faculties' guidance. These activities boost students' confidence, and they get prepared for open challenges after graduating from college. Students get enrolled themselves from all over the country. Students come from Jammu and Kashmir, UP, Karnataka, and many other places. 

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

“Dedication and determination goes hand in hand”

Students should be determined and show dedication. Try to focus on your studies and grab as much knowledge as you can. Gain physical experience and theoretical knowledge and try to implement these learnings in your life to make yourself a better person and society a better place to live. Try to give a 100 % attendance in your class. If you are dedicated to your studies, you will gain from those activities regularly coming to the classes. Students need to understand the meaning of “Return on Investment.” Parents are investing in us; therefore, its a student’s duty to get the return on those investments and devote yourself to your studies and become successful in your life.

What are some plans that you’re currently (or will be) designing for students?

“We are planning to open a medical college”

In the coming days, we are going to start a medical college. We have seen that too many patients are coming to visit the hospital from nearby states. Initially, our hospital will be providing services with 100 beds, and later on, it will be upgraded to 300 beds. We have also planned to move into higher secondary education, and for that, we are going to start a school very soon. The construction of the school has started. The school campus will be around 2.5 lacs square. The school will have a huge campus, and it will be one of its kind in the overall state of Jharkhand.
