What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

“To execute every responsibility on my shoulder that comes with the role as a HOD”

  • I keep them involved in the activities from which they can learn live exposure to the market.
  • I have to maintain classrooms environments, teaching knowledge,
  • I have to mentor my junior teachers or assistant teachers, and also arrange a time to time new teaching training for them.
  • I keep practice and also change the method of teaching because according to my experience what I learned is, every student has not the same brain and understanding.
  • I have to maintain the records of the student's semesters, their submissions, their internships and also maintain the record of junior staff.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

“Open communication and coordination with the students for every activity and learning”

I always work with high-quality instruction guidance between the students and always try to help them and also my fellow faculties. We all work together and make everyone comfortable to share his/her opinion in front of all of us.

Fashion Designing requires more focus on a practical approach along with theoretical knowledge, what are your views and approach regarding the same?

“A balance needs to be maintained in theory and practical approach to designing”

Both theory and practical work as mirrors/pillars to each other in the field of fashion design. The theoretical knowledge is fundamental for the practice of fashion design; the theory allows the student to have inputs for the development of their proposals as well as for the justification of them. It is important to bear in mind that the inspiration in the creative process arises after the student has had a period in which he has consciously reflected on his design project and has internalized theoretical concepts that allow him to reach a materialization, not It is a moment that comes from outside the student, but on the contrary, it comes from the whole process of learning and reflection.

What are the best practices offered by your department to the students which help them gain the necessary skills?

“Strategic planning with every activity they want to pursue learning”

Best practices offered by our department, the students need to learn how to work with others to do things they might only know how to do individually, for example...

  • assess the nature and difficulty of a task
  • break the task down into steps or stages
  • plan a strategy
  • manage time

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it gets updated to make it beneficial for the students?

“The proper administration with well-structured graduation time to time”

I always work on 3 stages of curriculum:-

  1. Outlining -
  2.  creating an overview of the curriculum, desirable outcomes, learning objectives, etc. Structuring the timeline for the plan. Gathering data and teaching/course materials.
  3. Decision -
  4.  The workflow of step-by-step implementation, delivery methods, assessment techniques, backup options, etc. comes under this section.
  5. Mapping -
  6.  Map the things which I have decided on with the things I want to achieve.

I update the curriculum yearly, as it benefits the new students with a new style of teaching and assignment they get.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to the real-world-challenge?

“Curricular activities is skill development and plays a crucial role in overall growth”

Yes, I do extracurricular activities with students like:-

  • Goal setting
  • Teamwork
  • Time management
  • Prioritization
  • Problem-solving
  • Analytical thinking
  • Leadership
  • Public speaking

On top of the benefit of the curriculum, I think these skills are more important for a student to work.

What are the challenges you face/ are facing to uplift the quality of education in your department?

“Lack of awareness to the parents on the aspect of the students’ career”

College students today seem to be spending much less time on their work as this is not simple graduation but it’s a design course. And the major problem I am facing is the Family factor, like- parents are not aware of the course and still they seem it’s just a stitching course his/her ward is doing. Rather than encouraging their child, they demotivate them, and after some time, a student also starts losing his/her interest in the course.

How does the department enhance the skills of the faculty and prepares them according to the industry standards?

“The learning and evolution of the experience is a perpetual process in education”

Professional development for a teacher of Design is a continuous, lifelong process. We always arrange professional training for them as per the industry standards or I take care of the quality they are providing to my department, which must have been matching with the industry requirements or not.

What do you see as the department’s greatest strength and how it can be enhanced?

“Teamwork and proper coordination in the members of the department”

The greatest strength of my department is the ability to work effectively with students. And listen and solve every problem of them. And it can be enhanced by the strong communication skills between faculty and student.
