Dr.Divya Tyagi is the Dean-Academics at Starex University, Gurugram. She has 14 research papers in national and international journals to her credit. She is an ardent believer in the saying “God creates human beings and teachers recreate.” Read what she has to say in her interview. 


What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style? 

“Making sure to include everyone in my decision-making process”

Leadership for me is to create positive thinking and a positive attitude among all the students, faculty members, and staff. I believe in teamwork. As a leader I am always ready to take responsibility for failures and ready to give credit to the team for success. In SU, we allow students to come forward and take responsibility for conducting various cultural and academic activities under the guidance of faculty. 


How does the curriculum of Starex University ensure best practice in the industry?

“Keeping at par with the industrial needs”

In SU we follow a Choice based credit system which opens students to various subjects. We also introduced the dissertation system in PG classes where students do their project work in Industries for 6 months. This will help students to work with real scenarios of industries. We design the syllabus for technical courses with the help of industry so that we can fill the bridge between university teaching and industry requirements.


What do you think your roles & responsibilities are to university & students?

“Facilitating a healthy environment without stagnation”

As Dean of academics, my first duty is to provide a good teaching- learning atmosphere to the faculty and students. I implemented a flexible system of teaching. Keeping this pandemic situation in mind various online platforms are being adopted to create effective teaching. The main emphasis of SU is to focus on the overall development of students. University ensures to bridge the gap between theory and practical application of concepts through a multidisciplinary learning process.

What do you think of Starex university’s top priorities over the next 10 years?

“Ensure that individuals achieve the desired success with our aid”

Starex’s top priorities mainly focus on:

  • Regular review and evaluate the current program for relevancy to the employment of SU students
  • Support the programs and activities that demonstrate and inspire academic excellence
  • Provide financial support to students and faculty for conferences presentation and research work.
  • More FDPs for faculty to implement updated pedagogy and curriculum

What was your vision for the university? Has it evolved, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

“To carry on towards the direction of growth and development”

“Nunc Est Semper- Now is forever ” is our motto which indicates our vision to spread the light of education amongst the scholars. My vision is to turn this university into a center of academic excellence and to promote professional, technical, and vocational expertise and research. We aim at infusing in the minds of our students the urge for basic awareness of today’s global exigencies. I believe that so far I have been successful in implementing my goals and my vision.

What do you see as Starex University’s greatest strengths?

“Foreign tie-ups to get the best of both worlds”

Starex is known for its academics. Many of our students have been selected in different government jobs. We have recruited well qualified and experienced staff who cater to the students individually. We readily offer startups in Agricultural Science for the students. SU has ties with Austria for BHMCT and students of hotel management are doing internships from Germany. SU also works in collaboration with the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, SK, Canada. It is to encourage joint research projects and student faculty exchanges programs between two universities.
