Anish Kappil Kunjumon is the Vice-Principal of the Indian Institute of Gem and Jewellery. He is a Research Scholar in Design and has done MBA specialization in Design Management, B.Sc. in Fashion Design and Technical Certificate in Jewellery Design, Corel Draw & 3D CAD. He is a Master Trainer for Jewellery Merchandiser and Jewellery Design. He is a design professional who is passionate about a creative approach towards everything he does, which includes his work and knowledge. He is having an amazing 16 years of experience in industry and teaching. He has worked with an international jewellery firm from Dubai, UAE as a jewellery designer.
What are your roles and responsibilities?
“To educate and guide them in the best possible way”
Being an integral member of the institute, I would like to share the learning experiences and knowledge that I have gained over the last 15+ years, to the students who are keen and focused to carve themselves in this evolving Gem and Jewellery Sector. Besides this, I am also responsible for addressing and resolving students' concerns and queries on time.
What is your leadership philosophy?
“I believe in a participative learning environment”
As a Vice-Principal, my philosophy of leadership is to give the right direction, provide value education, generate valuable outcomes and meet up the project expectation with assigned tasks. I strongly believe in an autocratic style of leadership, as I believe in taking the opinion of my peer members for all decisions.
How has been your experience so far with the Indian Institute of Gem and Jewellery?
“It's been amazing and I get to learn something new every day”
As we all know that educating young minds is an unending learning process in itself. Because your growth directly depends on your learning capacity, in other words, you need to keep upgrading yourself along with changing industry and societal needs. What do you think should be the college's top priority over the next 3 years?
“To improve student's skills to prepare them as per industry standards”
Our institute's top priority is to prepare our students as per industry requirements and to bring the best placements opportunities for them so that we can help them in securing a good gem and jewellery industry. We should also focus on enhancing entrepreneurship qualities in our students.
What kind of placement and higher studies opportunities does your institute provide?

Currently, IIGJ provides a graduation degree i.e. B.Des. in Jewellery Design, and there are tremendous opportunities the sector is presently offering. With the growing demand, for students who want to acquire a graduation degree with professional learning, the program fits their expectations. How would you like to define your connection with students and faculties?
“My relation with my students is crystal clear and friendly”
I try to keep a very calm and cordial relationship with all my students. And for this, I use the technique of transparent communication, mutual respect and providing them with every kind of support they may require in college. Overall, by ensuring my availability for their need, I have developed a very effective relationship with my students.
When you look back on your time in the educational industry, what’s the major difference?
“People focus is getting shifted towards other areas apart from traditional ones”
If I look back on my time, drastic changes are taking place in the education segment. Initially, people were aware of engineering and medicine related job prospects, and as time is changing with the growing industrial requirements, the Gems and Jewellery industry leaves a wide range of opportunities.
What makes your college unique in comparison to others?

Gem and Jewellery is a very young, vibrant and evolving industry. I would like to convey to all future students and their parents that the objective of IIGJ Jaipur is to spread awareness and provide the best quality education to all unemployed/educated/uneducated youth by enhancing their skills. At the national level, the Gems and Jewellery industry currently employs around 4.5 million skilled and semi-skilled workers across the country. It contributes approx. 7% of the total GDP of the country. Hence I would like to suggest to my students that be dedicated to your studies, gather new skills and develop strong networking with the brightest minds around you.
