Sivananda Sarma Memorial RV College

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/department?

“We offer industry oriented programs”

Our College is affiliated with Bengaluru City University, and the syllabus followed is prescribed by the University itself. Since there is limited autonomy to choose/change the syllabus, there is always a risk of disconnecting between the academic syllabus and the industry requirement. However, to bridge this Industry-Academic Gap there are various add on and certificates which are introduced by the College free of cost.

The specific programs offered for B.com are based on emerging technology -

  • Advance Diploma in Digital Marketing
  • Advance Diploma in Data Analytics
  • Advance Diploma in ERP (SAP)

Apart from the above programs we offer certificate courses on

  • Tally for First Year students
  • Personality Development Program for Second Year Students
  • Pre- Placement Training for Final Year Students

We also provide B.Com professional courses for students who are interested to pursue courses in Chartered Accountancy, Cost Accounting and Company Secretaryship.

What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?

“Course content is designed keeping abreast the current industry trends”

The course content for all the programs is designed, keeping in mind the industry requirement. The industry-academic void is covered by keeping these courses up to date and making necessary advancements whenever required. Our students are given counseling sessions regarding the prospects of these programs. They are given a clear road map of the various industry options of each of these courses. The students are also given enough time to consult their peer groups and seniors before they opt for their choice courses.

What are the best practices in the course?

“There are clubs which offer a different learning perspectives to the students”

Apart from the Courses offered, The Dept of commerce has academic clubs to cater to its flagship subjects' specific needs like Accounting and Taxation. There are various clubs like Accounting clubs, Taxation clubs, and Research clubs. These clubs organize workshops, seminars, guest lectures through Academic and Subject Experts for both Faculty Members and Students. Post-Lockdown, these events are organized online, catering to a PAN India audience.

A Unique practice is the Faculty Study Circle. Every month, a Faculty Development Program is held on a specific topic by having an expert in that particular area as the resource person.

What are some valuable insights of the program?

“The programs have a very specific objective and outcome”

Each program is designed keeping in mind the learning ability of an average student and also by ensuring that they do not interrupt or contradict their regular University results. The outcome of such programs are seen with our students getting certified in these programs and getting placed in companies of their choice. Our placement rate has been consistently more than 96%, with many students receiving multiple offer letters. Students who opted for higher education have found it very easy to relate to their syllabus since they would have good insight into the subject through these online courses. Students who opt for entrepreneurship have been able to apply these concepts directly into their business.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

“The courses are designed with a strong base and are not myopic in its nature”

The courses are designed as a whole “package” and then provided as a “Piecemeal content” each semester. It ensures students understand the concept from the basics and have enough time to cover the entire learning curve. By the time they graduate, along with a University Degree ( which could be obtained from any other college/ University), our students stand a “crowd apart” with these course certifications and knowledge.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

“We firmly believe in Learning Never Ends”

Our College and Dept always believes that “Learning Never End, irrespective of your designations or positions that you hold.” Our Faculty Members are encouraged to attend seminars, workshops, conferences, Paper presentations, and similar academic conglomerations. We also organize such events through IQAC and our Academic clubs. Faculty Members and students are encouraged to present and publish their research papers in reputed journals. They are also encouraged to take up courses (online and offline).

The college itself provides financial assistance for all the above activities.

The Dept has tied up with academic associations like Primax Foundation, Hiregange Academy, among many others, to conduct various academic, research, and taxation activities.

How do you tend to build an industry connection with this program?

“We create every training for students to keep them abreast of current industry trends”

The Syllabus framework is created by having high level discussions between academic experts, industry experts and research experts. To ensure students get practical exposure to their subjects, industrial visits and institutional visits are arranged regularly. There are projects (academic and industry based and socially relevant) that are encouraged in the department. It helps students to attain industrial exposure.
