Dr. V S Thangarasu Subramanian is the Principal of the Indra Ganesan College of Engineering. He did M.E. CAD/CAM from Anna University, Chennai, BE from Madurai Kamaraj University and MBA from Bharathiar University. He has also received PhD in Computer Integrated Manufacturing Process Optimization from Anna University, Chennai. His interested areas are quality engineering research, higher education institution accreditation, and having good experience in turbine maintenance for pumped storage power plants. He has 24 years of experience in various positions like Principal, Vice Principal, and HOD of Mechanical Engineering. He has published 28 national and international papers in journals.

We value and support employability skills, and has become vital for engineering education system in India. One of the primary skills needed nowadays are entrepreneurial skills that we develop from beginning of the degree. Most students in our campus are from rural areas but have very good IQ and are intellectuals. We train them with language communication from the first day itself. We treat them based on individual capacity and give internships /bridge courses for them. Students get the communication, reading and writing skills from the first year onwards. 

What is the rate of admissions in your college compared to last year?

“25% of the admission rate increased on campus compared to last few years”

All the engineering institutions have faced difficulty in attracting students in the last four years. But, there is a gradual incremental change since last year. We have got 75% of seats filled for our campus compared to last year it was good. About 300 students have joined in campus out of 420 and admissions in or UG programs, but still we are not getting enough numbers in PG courses in engineering. 

How do you establish a healthy relationship in Indra Ganesan College of Engineering, Tiruchirappalli?

“Students are free to meet the faculties’ and principal to share their problems at any time for their issues hence all the issues solved immediately, however class advisors in close call are also available on campus”

We take proactive measures to give the students best of the atmosphere for learning also we are maintaining a healthy relationship between students and faculty. Students can share their issues with the faculty members, HOD and Principal at any time. It can be even personal problems and we solve it quickly. Each student is assigned with a mentor to monitor and mend the progressiveness of the student and they can speak to them at any point of time. We follow all the guidelines of Anna University and AICTE.

How does the curriculum of Indra Ganesan College of Engineering ensure the best practice of industry?

Our campus provides several internship chances and courses for students. We organize value added programs on technical and programming courses for all the students. They are separated into three groups according to their interests. These groups are trained for different domains of interests like Cloud computing, Web Development and also in Programming languages like Python, Java / dot Net and also on Networking or Administration similarly for other core engineering branches in their own domains. We also send the final year students to internships and industrial project activities in top companies. All these are now proved to be beneficial for them to get good jobs through campus placement drives and off campus online placement drives. 

What are the biggest challenges you see for higher education and Indra Ganesan College of Engineering?

“Admission quality and employability requirements are the great challenges that are solved time and again our campus”

One of the greatest challenges is quality of admission and industry requirements for training during education but we continue to solve successfully. While fulfilling the educational requirements, we fulfill students' placements on campus. Our aim is simple as that one degree and a placement order in a reputed company for all my students. We inspire students by calling ‘Dear Engineer’ and they are getting motivated by small gestures like this. Our campus makes the students employable but the companies are looking for many different skills apart from the regular syllabus based training however we are making all the students employable. All the challenges are made positive by our step by step value addition in progress of the students'. 

What is the list of courses offered in Indra Ganesan College of Engineering?

“Agricultural Engineering, Artificial Intelligence Computer Science, IT,Electronics and Communication Engineering, , Mechanical, EEE courses are available on campus”

Most of the courses here are fully equipped and permanently affiliated like Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology. We offer multi specialization MBA and two post graduate degree courses in CSE and VLSI on campus. Some of the other streams in Engineering are Computer science & Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering. Our campus also started new courses in Artificial engineering & Data science, Agriculture engineering filling up quickly.

What do you see as the greatest strengths of campus?

“Students and dedicated faculties are the greatest strength for campus”

We decide to build new classrooms with gallery model constructions for students. Our greatest strengths are students who spread good things about campus. Another one is our dedicated faculty members who teach students in a way they like and they never miss any finish targets. Most students get placed every year and placement cell or training provided to them. Thus, we have reached a 100% placement on campus.
