Dr Inderpreet Kaur is the Director at Desh Bhagat Engineering College and officiating dean of academic affairs at Desh Bhagat University. Dr Inderpreet Kaur has completed her PhD from PEC and has a vast experience of 25 years. Out of those 25 years, she has spent nearly 6 years in the industrial segment and thereon moved towards teaching the young generation. She believes in promoting practical learning experiences, and emphasizes on learning from various sources to grow and prosper.

What interests you to work for the education sector? 

“To enlighten young minds keeps me connected to the education sector”

There is a gap between institutes and industry. Also, the Institute industry interaction platform still is not leveraged across the globe. Especially in India, there is a wide gap between the teachings and job scenarios. 

My primary objective is to establish seminars and internships for final and pre-final year students to have direct interaction with institutes. Our alumni have been putting efforts in supporting the current students by placing them and giving them good opportunities to learn. They are willing to come as a guide and mentors for the students. We have recently established an IEEE branch in our institution. 

What are your views on the New Education Policy?

“The New Education Policy will bring massive transformation”

The new education is very interesting, and we are trying to implement it in our BOS for the upcoming academic session of 2021. There are potential multi exit and multi-entry options, and most of India's students will be benefited from this policy. This is going to be an incredible platform to start their education anywhere in between. Also, the customisation option adds value to the courses. The local and national languages will be given priority in higher education as well.

What are your views on online education?

“Online teaching gives flexibility”

Online teaching is one of the best options because you can study anywhere, but definitely, a teacher's role is there, as without a teacher, it is hard to get your hands on to anything. You also need some offline modes as well so that you can have direct interaction with the teacher. So when you interact with your mentor in physical mode, it will boost your morale and a student. In this Google Era, we can easily search any topic, presentation and articles course curriculum but can't replace a teacher's role as a facilitator. As per my perception is concerned, many efforts are still required to motivate the students to become well versed with the latest technology.

Even more, options are available apart from Google meet. Teachers give feedback on a lot of noise and interference in virtual platforms for teaching. We need to explore more interactive modes of online teaching to make it more effective.

How have you planned to adapt to this change in education from classroom to online?

”Our emphasis is on developing best skill sets for students”

We are organising various faculty development programmes from time to time. Otherwise, we also see if some courses require offline interactions, we are doing that by following the government's proper guidelines for covid. Specific gravity development programmes on online teaching and making presentations are also delivered to them for efficient working. Particular focus is given on the mock sessions and how to purchase them.

What is your philosophy of leadership? How would you describe your leadership style?

”Learn from various possible sources and grow horizontally”

Grow horizontally, not vertically. I like to give my team members the authorities and responsibilities and have their full participation in every manner. I like to involve more people so that everybody can grow together.

Any message or advice you would like to give your students and the other aspiring students?

“We have a practical vision where students can explore various learning possibilities”

Desh Bhagat University carries a practical vision and students are given a platform to explore various perspectives and possibilities. They can grow and achieve the best in their careers. We are also coming up with numerous tie-ups on national and international levels where students will have the opportunity to go abroad, attend the student exchange programs and have a very good learning platform.
