Aligarh Muslim University, AMU has completed 100 years. President Ram Nath Kovind is likely to attend the centennial celebration of Varsity in virtual mode.

President Ram Nath Kovind is likely to attend the centennial celebrations of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) via video conference later this month, Vice-Chancellor Tariq Mansoor said. The date of the event will soon be finalised, he said.

In an open letter to the AMU community at the completion of 100 years of the university, Mansoor noted that on 1 December 1920 the government issued a notice of the establishment of that institution.

The VC said the university had planned a month-long celebration earlier, but could not have taken place due to the COVID-19 pandemic. AMU spokesperson Rahat Abrar said the limited online celebrations this month are expected to include the online release of a coffee table book depicting the university's pictorial history.

"The university has chronicled history of one hundred years of the institution which is preserved in a high-tech time capsule and will be buried later this month in an underground vault. As part of the centenary celebrations, the university has republished a treasure trove of archival materials and books pertaining to the history of this institution including rare books by its founding fathers," he said.
