At Victoria's School of Biological Sciences, you'll learn about the huge diversity of plants, animals, and micro-organisms that inhabit the Earth. After a broad introduction, the major in Ecology and Biodiversity focuses on areas of plant, animal, and ecosystem diversity and function.

Topics include physical and biological processes in ecology, genetics and molecular biology, statistics, plant ecology and conservation, animal ecology and behaviour, and evolution. You'll find it helpful to have some elementary knowledge of Biology and Statistics.

Wellington offers access to some unique centres of native biodiversity including Otari-Wilton's Bush, Kapiti Island Nature Reserve and Zealandia, the urban wildlife sanctuary in Karori. Current research interests include tuatara evolution and conservation, insect invasions, and sex in plants.
