Fiber optics, or optical fibers, are long, thin strands of carefully drawn glass about the diameter of a human hair. These strands are arranged in bundles called optical cables. We rely on them to transmit light signals over long distances.There are three types of fiber optic cable commonly used: single mode, multimode and plastic optical fiber (POF). Transparent glass or plastic fibers which allow light to be guided from one end to the other with minimal loss. Optical Fibers are based on Total Internal Reflection. The phenomenon in which the angle of incidence is more than the critical angle is known as total internal reflection.Fiber optics is used for long-distance and high-performance data networking. Fiber optics is also commonly used in telecommunication services such as internet, television and telephones.
