It was formerly called the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT). It is an all India pre-medical entrance test for students seeking admission to government and private colleges and universities in India and abroad for those planning to pursue primary medical training abroad. State Counselling Authorities and the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare administer the exam. State Testing Agency (NTA) makes seat allocations based on the results. NEET-UG replaced many pre-medical exams given by states and medical colleges, such as the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT). In 2014 and 2015, the exam could not be held due to lawsuits filed against it. MBBS and BDS seats in India are filled through NEET-UG, a single entrance exam.
