In accordance with the provisions of subsection (1) of section 23 of the RTE Act, the Notification of 23 August 2010 of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) defined the minimum qualifications for an individual to be qualified for appointment as a teacher in classes I to VIII. One of the necessary qualifications for an individual to be qualified for appointment as a teacher in any of the schools referred to in clause (n) of section 2 of the RTE Act was, inter alia, to pass the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) to be conducted by the appropriate government in accordance with the NCTE Guidelines.
