The government-owned corporations are termed as Public Sector Undertakings(PSUs) in India. In a PSUs majority (51% or more) of the paid up share capital is held by central government or by any state government or partly by the central governments and partly by one or more state governments. Public sector units or PSUs offer various prestigious and lucrative job opportunities to deserving engineers. In fact, many families across India consider employment in a PSU as the dream career option. PSUs recruit engineers in large numbers every year. Stiff Competition for PSU Jobs. Organizations typically hold entrance exams as a critical step in the selection process for PSU jobs. Such entrance exams are followed by group discussions and a personal interview. Thousands of people appear in these exams. Sometimes there are hundreds of applicants for a particular job. Hiring Via GATE. There are certain PSUs that do not conduct their own entrance exams to hire engineers. Instead, they consider the candidate's performance in the GATE exam. Clearing the GATE exam is considered as a compulsory criterion to screen candidates. There were 14 such PSUs, including NTPC, BPCL, BEL and BHEL, that conducted their recruitment via GATE 2013. Criteria for PSU Jobs. Mostly, the age limit for PSU jobs is 25 to 28 years. The application should at least be a graduate. Further eligibility criteria are defined by the particular organization and job in question. Some organizations require selected candidates to sign a bond for up to three years. Pay Packages for PSU Jobs. The pay packages for PSU jobs range from around 4.8 lakhs to 12 lakhs per annum. Apart from the monetary compensation, there are several attractive perks.
