"The Graduate Record Examination, conducted by the ETS (Educational Testing Services) is a requisite for gaining admission to the masters and doctorate programs, especially in the USA. It offers a general and a subject test, the former of which is the mandatory exam. It is a computer-adaptive test consisting of three sections: Verbal reasoning section, Quantitative reasoning section and Analytical writing section. The scaled score for the verbal and quantitative sections is out of 340, and each section comprises of 20 questions. The analytical writing section contains an argument and an issue task and is graded on a scale of 0-6. Depending on the test taker’s ability, the computer adapts the difficulty level of the verbal and math sections. All the questions are either multiple choice or multiple answer, except for some questions in the quantitative ability section which require entry of a numeric quantity. The scores are valid for 5 years and the registration fee is $195 worldwide. GRE on the whole evaluates critical thinking and expressing an opinion analytically and verbal as well as quantitative reasoning.
