Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) is the state administrative civil service of Rajasthan. The constitution under Article- 309, 310, and 311 provide basis for state civil services. The constitution empowers the legislature to regulate the recruitment and conditions of service of persons appointed to state civil services. At present, there are 1050 posts of RAS in Rajasthan. RAS officers are recruited from civil services examination conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC). The RAS selection procedure includes three levels of examination- preliminary, mains, and interview. In preliminary examination RPSC is asking objective type questions. The main is a subjective examination with prescribed syllabus. At both preliminary and mains examination level there is no optional subjects. After qualifying the written examination, the candidates have to appear for a personality test. After getting selected, candidates undergo training at officer’s training school (OTS) or Harish Chandra Mathur Rajasthan State Institute of Public Administration (HCM RIPA), Jaipur. The members of the Rajasthan Administrative Services hold office during the pleasure of the governor of the state. The retirement age for RAS officer is 60 years.
