The process of creating a large integrated circuit is called as "Very-large-scale integration (VLSI)". The process of VLSI is executed by combining thousands of transistors into a single chip. VLSI first began when complex semiconductor and communication technologies were being developed. The microprocessor is a VLSI device. Before its introduction, most ICs had limited sets of functions they could perform. In an electronic circuit where CPU, ROM, RAM and other glue logic are incorporated, all of them could be brought together into a single chip under VLSI technology. VLSI technology actually started off initially to drive cell-based technology and later became a large field.
