The programme provides a supportive environment for conducting applied research in one of the areas of specialisation of the staff of the Department. Students are expected to contribute to current research in applied linguistics, and are encouraged to relate issues and insights from applied linguistics to problems of English as an international language in Chinese or Asian contexts.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Requirements:
- Applicant must have completed a masters degree in linguistics or related field or a bachelors degree with second class honors in upper division
- Submit official transcripts of all previous education completed
- Submit samples of writing or publications such as thesis or research proof
- Applicant must have one year of relevant experience
- Submit a 1500 words research proposal that demonstrates robust theoretical knowledge of the interested subject
- Submit English Language Proficiency test scores
English Language Requirements:
- TOEFL : minimum 79 in iBT
- IELTS: minimum 6.5
- GMAT: verbal band of 21
