Bachelor of Science [B.S] (Mechanical Engineering)
Field of Study:
The bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is broad. In the first semesters, students are taught the basics in the subjects of mathematics, mechanics, science, and technical presentation; There are also lectures in computer science, electrical engineering, materials technology, and machine elements. From the fourth semester onwards, students have the opportunity to choose between the various specializations, depending on the chosen field of study, the corresponding courses are mandatory.

Tuition Fees
There are no tuition fees at the University of Duisburg-Essen. All students are, however, subject to a student body and social contribution fee per semester.
The social and student body contribution for the winter semester 2021 amounts to a total of $387.43.
The amount is made up as follows:
- Mobility contribution (ticket): $253.41, of which $183.94 for the VRR semester ticket and $69.47for the NRW ticket
- Social contribution for the Studierendenwerk: $114.98
- Student body fee: $19.04.
The social and student body contribution is not to be paid before enrollment! Students will be informed about the payment modalities upon registration.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- General or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) or a certificate recognized as equivalent.
- Those who have qualified in vocational training are also granted access to the course. The regulations governing university admission for those qualified in vocational education regulate further details.
- Admission is also possible without a high school diploma (e.g. with a technical college entrance qualification) through an aptitude test or aptitude test. The entrance examination consists of a written examination (exam) in three subjects (mathematics, physics and German or English, course content: upper secondary school) totaling 3 hours and an oral examination lasting 30 to 45 minutes.
Indian Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet the following requirements:
- Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification must pass the "German language test for university entrance" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before starting their studies
- German: at least level B2 according to the CEFR
- English: at least level B2 according to the CEFR.
International students hailing from non-English speaking countries can prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test to get admission to this program.
