Master of Science [M.S] (Civil Engineering)
Field of Study:
This degree program is unique because it is closely interlinked with other engineering sciences as well as natural and economic sciences and conveys specialist knowledge in the chosen specialization as well as application-oriented methodological competence.
The course offers a specialization in the areas:
- How are bridges, buildings, and industrial buildings dimensioned and constructed
- How is the durability and maintenance of structures implemented?
- How are finite element technologies and new material models applied?
- How are the securing of foundations, retaining structures, and construction pits planned, calculated, and carried out?
- How are hydraulic engineering and urban water management systems measured, managed, and controlled?
- How can road construction methods be optimized?
- How can traffic noise pollution be determined and reduced?

Tuition Fees
Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) does not charge tuition fees. The students must only pay a semester contribution fee of about $401 per semester. This fee includes free use of public transport in North-Rhine Westphalia, and reduced prices for food and beverages in the cafeteria (Mensa) and canteens.
Eligibility & Entry Requirement
Academic Eligibility:
- Students who apply for the Master of Science program must have a Bachelor (or comparable) degree in either
- Civil engineering
- Environmental technology and resource management
Indiana Eligibility:
Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- Most of the courses at the RUB are held in German. Students must therefore have sufficient knowledge of German and provide evidence by obtaining one of the following language certificates:
- TestDaF with at least 16 points within an examination
- DSH (level 2 or 3)
- German Language Diploma - DSD - II
- ZOP or Goethe Certificate C2 from the Goethe Institute
- KDS or GDS from the Goethe Institute
- ÖSD language diploma C1
- telc German C1 Hochschule
- Assessment test (examination part German)
