About NGSMIPS

The Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (NGSMIPS) is a Mangalore-based private college that came into existence in 1983. The institute is affiliated with Nitte University and also received the ISO 9001:2015 certification. It offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Doctorate, and Diploma courses in Pharmacy and its allied disciplines such as Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacy Practice, Quality Assurance, and Pharmaceutical Sciences, etc.

NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences Courses

The NGSMIPS Karnataka offers a full-time and 4-year duration Bachelor of Pharmacy followed by a 6-year Pharm.D course at the Undergraduate level. Then there are 2-year M.Pharm, and 3-year Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) at the PG level. Lastly, students can pursue a 3-year PhD and a 2-year Diploma in Pharmacy. 

The lateral entry option is also available for students who wish to join the college from 2nd year of the B.Pharma course. 1-year mandatory internships allow the college to bridge the gaps between students' skills and industry demands. For both UG and Diploma courses, the candidate's age should not be greater than 17 years as of 31st December of the year of admission.

The highly vibrant, spacious, and growth-oriented campus of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences has all the basic and advanced facilities the students or teachers may need during the course duration. In addition, the overall ambiance of the college and well-developed research amenities further allow people of different mindsets, knowledge, and experiences to come together and work on innovative ideas. Hi-Tech Classrooms: The lecture halls developed by the NGSMIPS keeping in mind the industrial standards, have the most suitable environment for focused teaching-learning and collaboration. Each classroom is spacious, well-ventilated, and well-resourced with audio-video teaching aids, LCD Projectors, and an Internet facility. Teachers in return use all this to deliver daily lectures through PowerPoint Presentations, which later on are forwarded to students for reference purposes. 

Library and Information Centre: This facility has been established by the institution to take care of the academic needs of students and faculty members, and inculcate reading habits in the earlier ones. This well-stocked Libary is situated on a huge area of 3230 sq. ft of land and has an extensive collection of 3701 Titles, 12638 Volumes, 12 International and 35 National Journals, 689 PG Dissertation, 1028 Back Volumes, 85 WHO Publications, 66 Ph.D. Thesis, 646 CD ROMs, 30,778 E-Books, 9 Magazines, 9 Newspapers. It is also a proud member of the HELINET consortium, DELNET, and UpToDate. Library operations are fully automated, and managed by Easylib web version software and a Bar-coding system. 

It is also well protected with a fire extinguisher and CCTV cameras. Services like Circulation and Reference Collection, Newspapers and Periodicals, Book Bank facilities, and software for research are available for students. Turnitin is used to check Plagiarism in all written documents like Thesis, dissertations, and research articles. There is also a Digital Library, where students can access a dedicated pool of online resources.

Sports: An athletic track of 400 meters, and dedicated lush green grounds for outdoor games like Football, Cricket, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, and Badminton, are developed by the college on its campus. Enough arrangements have been made for students to play and enjoy games such as Table Tennis, Chess, and Carrom. These playgrounds are not just a place for young minds to refresh themselves, but also to connect with their peers and seniors. 

Cafeteria: This facility has been developed on the college campus to provide wholesome, nutritious, and affordable food and snacks to both students and staff members. It is the ambiance of this space that attracts students here to refuel, socialize, and unwind themselves from their academic pursuits. 

Common Rooms: When it comes to taking care of students' privacy, and comfort, the college has not left any stone unturned and developed common rooms for both girls and boys. After the canteen, this space is the favorite place for students to rejuvenate themselves.

Cultural: For any institute, maintaining a proper balance between curricular and extracurricular activities is very important to ensure the overall personal and professional growth of students. Hence NGSMIPS regularly encourages students to take part in cultural events, inter-class competitions, and events about dance, music, and drama, all of which are organized by it from time to time. A dedicated Student Council has also been formed to help the college authorities as and when needed.

Literary: The college organizes a Literacy Week every year, wherein events such as pell bees, face painting, calligraphy, short essays, sketching, quizzes, and story writing competitions are conducted to bring out the hidden talents of students. 

Accommodations: To provide a homely environment to students away from their homes, separate hostels are offered by the college to both boys and girls. Following are some of the key features of this facility:

  • Rooms: All the rooms of these accommodations are spacious, clean, and fully furnished. Each is also well-resourced with a cot, cupboard, study table, and chairs. In addition, all the blocks of these hostels are well connected with solar water heaters, water coolers, a Wi-Fi network, a TV room, lift facilities, and a visitor's area.
  • Gymnasium: There is a modern, well-developed, and air-conditioned gym, and is located on 5500 sq. ft of land. Students come here to do physical exercises and make themselves fit and healthy. Expert trainers are also available here to guide students at every step. Latest training equipment including Treadmills, elliptical trainers, exercise bikes, and rowing machines, are installed here.
  • Dining: A dedicated mess also exists in the hostel and it has a seating capacity of 200 students. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian, and South/ North Indian food items are provided here to students. Every meal is prepared under the supervision of experts and college committee people.
  • Recreations: The indoor stadium is also there in both boys' and girls' hostels, and each has enough facilities for games such as Caroms, Chess, Badminton, Kabaddi, Throw ball, etc.
