Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Information Technology (IT) is a 2 years’ postgraduate degree program which can be done after any bachelor’s degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in aggregate. This course is established to provide theoretical as well as practical knowledge related to data mining and controlling with software applications and their development. Average fees of this course would be from INR 80,000 to 3 Lacs depending upon the criteria of the college. Admission in most of the M.Sc IT colleges is done through merit list based on marks in bachelors degree however there are some colleges which offer admission on the basis of entrance test.

The main objective of this course is to provide knowledge of programming, implementation of common data structures using OOP principles in C++ and ADTs which covers Lists, Stacks, Queues, Trees, and Graphs. In order to take admission candidate should have bachelor degree with science stream and on the basis of marks obtained and merit list candidates can apply for admission in M.Sc. (Information Technology)
However there are some colleges who offer admission after clearance of entrance examination and on the basis of marks obtained in entrance test along with marks scored in bachelors degree admission can be done. Lateral entry option is also available for admission in some universities and colleges.

There are so many entrance examination for M.Sc. course among which TANCET is the most popular. TANCET is conducted by Anna University for admissions to colleges in Tamil Nadu. Entrance examination will be of objective type in which there will be 4 options available to each question. Entrance test will be of 3 hours and there can be negative marking for each wrong answer.
For the selection process candidates will be assessed on the basis of marks obtained at graduation level and entrance test wherever applicable. After this they have to clear group discussion and personal interview by showing their caliber and expertise in knowledge and study.
In group discussion candidates will be assessed in group of individuals with the same topic at the same time. They have to stand for their own opinion in the group. And in personal interview they will be assessed on the basis of individual capability and skills. The weightage of all the above are as follows-
