“The placement season is in full swing and every other course is planning to get the whole batch to get placed by January. Despite a slow economy, a lot of big brands came to campus and the number of hires were less but it showed that the industry believes in the talent that is created by GIM every year. All the placement related activities are handled by the students during a rigorous selection process and there is absolutely no involvement by the college administration towards the same which gives some students a lot of power in hand.”

It teaches you a lot about your own personality as well as your strengths and weaknesses. I got placed with HSBC as a Strategic Intern for my SIP, I was pretty happy with HSBC overall functioning but felt the responsibilities could have been better but the connections I made were for lifetime so can’t complain. In my finals I am placed in a Product role with a company and absolutely can’t complain with the role as very few product roles come to campus. Read More

Life at GIM Goa

GIM has a good brand name, I wasn’t very sure about the same but my perspective totally changed once I met a lot of GIM alumni in HSBC and saw how they progressed in their careers after graduating from GIM. The best part of GIM is the mornings when you can see from your window and the sky changing a lot of colors in the evening, the view is definitely the best part of your stay in GIM. You are assigned a college faculty as your buddy for 2 years and you are free to talk to him/her about your problems and understand how you should take things forward. You have a counsellor which is available online and offline if you want to talk about things when you are not feeling good mentally or emotionally at your disposal. In MBA you change a lot of friends, owing to change of interests and due to conflicting viewpoints and every student in MBA goes through this phase.

GIM Goa Classroom

GIM Goa Classroom

You have a core group throughout 2 years and a lot of temporary people you meet in these 2 years. 2 primary lessons I learnt in MBA, don’t trust people on their face value and relationships have become more fragile than ever it could be. In 2nd year classes function at odd hours and some days you have 1 class and some days you have classes till 10 as well. My typical day starts with getting up at 8;25am for a 9am lecture and getting my breakfast in a 15 minute gap after my 1st lecture.

GIM cannot function without our Jaggu bhaiya store who helps to solve most of our munching and hygiene products and trust me his store has every possible flavour of chips available. At GIM we have specialised labs catering to the practical aspect of MBA curriculum, which are available for students 24*7 and for Big Data Analytics students, we have labs where we could access every tool be it R, Python, Power Bi, Hadoop and the like for practice in class and even after classes. Goa Institute of Management (GIM): 8 Answered Questions

How does the Achiever's round work at Goa Institute of Management?

Prasanna KumarMba from Goa Institute of Management

If you are shortlisted for the Achiever's round at a management institute like Goa Institute of Management, you will receive an email with further instructions. You will have to book your interview slot from the options provided. You will have the choice of attending a lecture with current students or an option without class.

You will be required to reach the campus by 9 am on the day of the interview. You will be directed to a classroom where the document verification process will take place. A random allotment will be made among eight faculties/admin staff responsible for document verification. While filling out the form, you will be asked to write your three best achievements and provide proof for the same. Make sure to write only verifiable achievements.

You will be split into groups of 10-12 candidates for the Group Discussion. There will be two panelists (both faculties at the institute). This will be a mix of Group Interviews and Group Discussions. You will be given a minute to introduce yourself, and the panelists will then ask you to choose a topic for discussion. You will discuss current issues, and a topic will be given based on the work experience of all candidates. For example, "How do you handle Passive vs Aggressive bosses".

After the group discussion, you will have lunch, and then the PI round 1 will start. Here, two panelists (one male, one female) will interview you. The interview questions will be general and based on your work experience. You may be asked about your name, something about yourself, the best and worst brand you worked for, the marketing strategy for the institute, and any questions you may have for the panelists.

After the first round, you will be asked to wait back, and some names will be announced for the Director's round. If your name is called, you will have to wait in the reception area for your turn. The Director's round will be more intense, and you may be asked questions about your work experience and why you want to pursue an MBA. Make sure to prepare well for this round.

The Director's round questions will include topics like your work experience, marketing, sales, and real estate. There may be multiple panelists, and some may not ask any questions. You may be asked to explain your document verification process if it's not in place.

If you successfully complete the interview process, you may be given a spot offer. It's important to stay positive and confident throughout the process, even if you feel nervous. Make sure to prepare well and answer all questions honestly and to the best of your ability.

Which course is better in Goa institute of management?

Utkarsh DevPGDM - Big Data Analytics from Goa Institute of Management (Graduated 2021)

Goa Institute of Management has 2 regular programs

  1. PGDM
  2. PGDM HCM

PGDM: PGDM is its flagship course and is very successful. Its 100% placement percentage is a testament to that. The average salary has been increasing every year and this year stands at INR 12.07 LPA. The companies visiting the campus for recruitment have been loyal by visiting every year. The regular PGDM has much more fees in comparison to PGDM HCM and thus a lower ROI. Also, admission to PGDM is tough owing to tough competition.

PGDM HCM: This program was launched just a few years ago and had few seats. It too boasts of a 100% placement percentage yet its average package at INR 10.40 LPA is lower than PGDM. But some companies come especially for HCM students. The PGDM HCM has fees lower than PGDM and thus offers a higher ROI than regular PGDM. Due to a lack of awareness, the competition is also less tough than PGDM.

Talking about the delivery of the curriculum, the faculty, pedagogy, infrastructure, and facilities are all the same. The students of both programs join together during events. So eventually it’s up to you to decide which course to take.

Is Goa Institute of Management good for a PGDM in operations?

Subhashree MeherStudied Post Graduate Diploma in Management at Goa Institute of Management (2020)

One of my friends is majoring in HR but has opted for numerous positions in IT Operations. According to her, the course is very well designed and is industry relevant. Speaking specifically about Operations, the electives under it are directly related to the industry such as

  • Business Analysis
  • Big Data Analytics (now a specialization in itself at GIM)
  • Project Management
  • Supply Chain Management

The pedagogy comprises a case-based approach with special emphasis on recent trends in each specialization. The faculty is very experienced and has had enough exposure to the corporate world. On average, around 30-40 students specialize in Operation every year at GIM. The most common roles offered to students who are specialized in Operations are

  • Business Analyst
  • Consultant
  • Project Manager

So Goa Institute of Management is a very good option for PGDM in Operations.

Vishal KhannaFormer Sr. Marketing Executive at Oberoi Realty (2018–2019)

The best way to know if joining a certain program is worth it or not is to determine the ROI. This can be done by roughly comparing the fees with the average package. The table below shows the main statistics

Particulars

Statistics

Fees

INR 18,31,200 (tuition) + ?2.04 Lakh (Hostel)
