  • McMaster University offers MASc in Computational Science and Engineering for a duration of 2 years.
  • It is an on-campus, thesis-based program available on a full-time basis.
  • The School of Computational Science and Engineering has an equal partnership between the Faculties of Science and Engineering, with outreach to the School of Business and the Faculty of Health Sciences. 
  • Students of MASc or MSc degree with a thesis is required to complete a minimum of four half-courses and to successfully defend a thesis.

    • Computational physical sciences
    • Computational optimization, design, and control
    • Computational biosciences
  • The School of Computational Science and Engineering arranges a series of seminars, students are required to attend and may be required to present part of their research results as part of this series.
  • The student-faculty ratio of this program is 20:1 which increases the interaction between faculty and the students.
  • It is expected that many students will choose this route towards a Ph.D. degree; however the master’s program also prepares students for high-level industry jobs that involve independent critical thinking and state-of-the-art knowledge of modern computational methodology.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students have to complete an Honours Bachelor's degree (BEng, BSc, or equivalent) in Computer Science or related field from a recognized university.
  • The related fields include a UG degree in computer engineering, applied computing, applied mathematics, computer information systems.
  • Students to a thesis-based program require a minimum average of B+ (77%) in the last two years of study.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:

  • Completed a 4-year UG degree with first class in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Or, completed a 3-year UG degree must have a substantial background in computer science or engineering or a related field.

Submission of GRE scores is not compulsory for this program, however, if students have given the GRE exam then it is recommended to submit the scores (minimum 300) for a better chance of admission.

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.
