Jad Review at University Of Toronto [U OF T], Toronto | Collegedunia

Interesting and eye opening. Conflicting elements of enjoyment and suffering existing in a precarious balance.

Prestigious, Recognized, Academic rigour. Though difficult, opens up many opportunities in the long run.

Course Curriculum

Ultimately alienating and intensive. However, if managed probably (with respect to time and priorities), you can flourish. The syllabus for some courses hasn't adapted well to the online experience but that's an extenuating circumstance.

Exams

Arts & Science Applications did not allow for supplemental documents and only requested the Predicted Ib Grades.

Placement

I'm not aware of the specific statistics. Post-graduate and medical school opportunities are plenty when applying to other institutions. However, the university itself harbors a highly competitive recruiting process and thus the chances remain low for individuals seeking further academic education within the university to make it onto the postgraduate scene.

Events

As a commuter, it tends to be difficult to explore the possibilities of campus life. However, club opportunities are plenty given the sheer size of the cohort and you are free to explore whatever interest you may have. With that in mind, the university is quite academically oriented, making it dauntingly alienating, stressful, and depressive for many.

Fees

$8000 CAD

Scholarship

Haven't applied for any scholarship.

Faculty

Interpersonal activities with professors are almost non-existent unless you attend office hours. Some TAs were quite approachable and excited while others were more reclusive. No one really produced a lasting impression on me. I did however enjoy my soc100 and pol 101 courses (breadth electives), along with bio 130 and 230.

Hostel

No; living with my sister. The average rental for a 2 bedroom apt in downtown Toronto is 2.5k-3k Cad Monthly. I've been to a number of dormitories however and they tend to vary in quality from college to college (seven residential colleges constitute the university's inhabitants). Some require sharing a room first year while others don't. Some have better meal plans while others tend to provide subpar service. The quality of residence oscillates from college to college and building to building and so, I can't provide universal judgment about the quality of the residence.
