I have completed my high school in India with Non-medical stream. I wanted to build up my future in the chemical field particularly in wastewater treatment. I lived in Punjab province, college for chemical engineering was not so good there. I planned to move out to a different province for studies. I used to search for different colleges to study chemistry in India as well as abroad. I came to know about Mohawk college which is the best college of applied arts and technology. I did IELTS and applied for this college Besides this, my mom has applied to Seneca college on behalf of me but luckily Mohawk college accepted my application. I paid around Rs.13 Lakh including my GIC and 1st sem fees. I'm paying more than $8000 every semester. As I have completed my one and a half years here, I can say that this much money is worth according to the study and facilities provided by the college.
Exams
Mohawk college required more than 65/100 high school grades, I met this requirement and gave IELTS and my score meets the college requirements. Upon arriving here, I had to give an entrance test of Maths and English. I had to score min 85/100 to clear these tests. Luckily, I got 93-95/100. My program has 136 credits, and I have got 76 and the rest are left. This program requires a capstone project to pass it. It is a great opportunity for us as students.
Placement
I didn't get summer co-op because I didn't have a G2 license but my friends who had that, successfully got a good position job in good companies. My field has an average of $16/hour pay. If you will meet the requirements then no one can take your job away from you. Co-op specialist also helps in interview preparation. Mock interviews are available at college to build up confidence.
Internship
My program has one and a half-year co-op. This college has a special site, career-ready, many jobs are posted there by the college. On-campus opportunities are also available. We can do peer tutoring, can work in our labs or food court as well.
Fees
Well, GIC helps a lot in the first year as we get $650 every month. Besides this, I'm a part-time worker, by doing 20hrs per week, we cannot make much but can easily save money in the first year. This college offers scholarships but this requires a lot of volunteering experience which I didn't have had before but now I'm doing volunteering in my chemistry lab. So I would apply for a scholarship later in September. Moreover, if you are facing a problem while paying fees, the college offers deferral as well as an emergency one-time loan. I had deferral before and going to get it again but never took a loan.
Faculty
All the teachers are well educated and experienced. Professors help a lot in studies, never say no even upon asking the same thing 20 times. Their method of teaching by giving real-life examples or by performing relevant experiments in class help to understand the topic better.
