In April, Lambton College set up a Graduate Services and Support Centre in North York. The Centre aims to assist foreign students while they look for jobs after graduation and settle down in Canada. Support services will be extended to all International students in Ontario including pupils studying in Queen’s College and Cestar College campuses in Toronto and Mississauga after graduation.
Robert Kardas, CEO and president at Lambton College stated, “We know that our international students want to be immersed in Canadian culture. They want mentorship, they want career guidance, and they deserve those things. It only made sense that the same service being offered in Sarnia will now be offered to all Lambton College international students regardless of study location.”

According to several representatives from Lambton College, the Centre will mainly focus on procuring suitable resources that will help foreign graduate students to pursue careers of their choice in Canada. This includes providing mentoring opportunities, organising alumni events and other networking opportunities, health and wellness resources etc.

According to Mr Rob Kardas, a “Truly comprehensive approach” with regard to international education should include extensive career and employment support for students post-graduation. He mentioned that the first 36 months are most crucial for international students as they strive to attain permanent residency.

He continued, ‘Our international students need the support of somebody being in their corner. Our goal is to provide them with that support for as long as they need it. In post-secondary we often talk about life-long learning – our Alumni Association wants to put a twist on that by saying we want to be lifelong supporters of our students when they graduate.’
The centre was partly funded by Lambton College’s International Education Partners, Cestar College and Queen’s College. Guard.Me International Insurance, which has been a ‘valued supporter’ for quite some time now contributed around $340,000.
