Because they have the specific course I wanted to do in a double degree. I also loved the large open campus and how there are interesting things to do there that are unrelated to study such as a wildlife sanctuary.
Course Curriculum
So far I like it. Some of the law core subjects are hard - content and memorization heavy. However my international relations subjects are certainly more interactive - they are based on seminars and group work which I like.
Exams
VCE exams for all of my subjects - Art, further maths, History revolutions, Literature, Psychology.
Placement
They are plenty of opportunities but as I am a first year I have not yet taken them. I know La Trobe have a career lounge to discuss future jobs and I definitely will be applying to the program which involves shadowing a politician for a month
Internship
Yes but I have not been on one. I know there are opportunities locally in businesses as well as state and nationally. Also if you find an internship yourself the careers people can assist you in applying for it
Events
So far: Pride: Celebration of diversity and love Oweek - welcomed back returning and new students allowing them to become involved in campus life International Women?s day - self defence and speak up classes available as well as free food and support I?m sure there are lots more but those are the ones I have experienced so far
Fees
Pay by per subject depending on the subject such as law being more expensive. Also involves admin fees
Scholarship
Yes I applied for a commonwealth supported place meaning that the government pays my tuition and i pay them back when I have the money
Examination Structure
Only some subjects have exams like my law subjects and they are generally large essay style analysis questions. However my international relations subjects don?t have exams - instead it is moreno group based enquires
Faculty
Very friendly, supportive and helpful. The staff are passionate about their specific fields - most of the academics also work in the specific fields which I like
Hostel
I live at home but travel by car for 1.5 hours per day (so all up 3 hours) I can?t afford to live on campus as it is very costly. My job is also close to my residence so it would be difficult to move and find a new job
