February 7, 2022: Australia re-opens border for fully vaccinated international students and workers. Those who are vaccinated would be allowed to enter the country from Feb 21, 2022.
January 10, 2022: Only fully vaccinated students will be allowed to travel to Australia whereas unvaccinated international students will need to have a valid reason for not being vaccinated to seek an exemption.
December 13, 2021: Australian Health Minister declared that the country is set to reopen its border for international students from December 15, 2021 as it was decided before.
November 30, 2021: As per the latest announcement made by the Australian Government, the re-opening of borders will get delayed by at least two weeks amid omicron variant fear.
With this decision, the Australian Government has now permitted fully vaccinated international students who wish to pursue their education from top institutes and colleges of Australia will be able to enter the country.
Additionally, International students will no longer have to apply for a travel exemption. The permit will only be offered to students who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and hold a visa.

Pointing to the decision, Australian Education Minister Alan Tudge officially tweeted, “We are opening borders to international students on 1 December. This is good for those students, good for the unis and good for our economy”.

Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship Minister official tweet reads, “This is a most welcome move for all Australia-bound Indian students. The addition of Covaxin into Australia’s list of approved Covid19 vaccines will further ensure the return of Indian students and professionals to Australia”.
The Australian Government’s decision to remove the ban from various activities for fully vaccinated students and workers was made after analyzing the COVID-19 vaccination rate in the country. As of now, over 85% of the target population has been fully vaccinated in Australia.
The decision has been made for fully vaccinated travelers like foreign skilled workers, international students, working holidaymakers, and provisional family visa holders in certain categories in the light of COVID-19.

While talking about the importance of international students, the Universities Australia’s Chief Executive Catriona Jackson said, “The value of international students to Australia is more than just the impact they have on the economy and employment, through their $31 billion annual economic contributions and support for 250,000 jobs is important”.
“These students are the future corporate and political leaders of our nearest trading partners. They make an enormous contribution to Australia’s influence in the world,” Catriona Jackson further added.
